HABIT - Illinois State Add On

About This Course:

This Illinois Add-On supplements TAP's HABIT Training and ensures compliance with Illinois' mandatory annual sexual harassment prevention training requirements under the Illinois Human Rights Act. Designed specifically for theatre workers operating in Illinois, this course builds directly on HABIT Core — covering everything from how Illinois law expands federal protections, to what supervisors are legally required to do when harm occurs. Whether you're an actor, administrator, stage manager, or artistic director, this add-on ensures you know your rights, your responsibilities, and exactly what the law requires of Illinois employers.

*Note this course is for educational purposes only, and does not constitute legal or financial advice.

What You'll Learn:

  • How Illinois law expands federal civil rights protections — including additional protected characteristics like ancestry, marital status, gender identity, and lawful off-duty conduct
  • What qualifies as sexual harassment under Illinois law, including in employer-provided housing
  • How to report harassment internally and externally, including to the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the EEOC
  • How retaliation is defined under Illinois law — and why its standard differs from harassment
  • What supervisors and managers are legally required to do when they witness or receive a complaint
  • What employers must have in writing, on file, and accessible at all times

Who It's For:

Theatre workers in Illinois — including full-time employees, part-time workers, independent contractors, interns, volunteers, and anyone providing services in an Illinois workplace. Required for all Illinois employers, regardless of organization size.
